Luxury Watches
of Princess Diana
The
watches used by a significant person add to the brand appeal of a watch.
Princess Diana, people’s Princess and a
candle in the wind is one of
the most fascinating persons of the enchanting world of glitter and glamour.
The adage from Shakespeare, apparel
oft proclaims the man is
no where more true than in the case of the Princess who stole the heart of
everyone during our times when the only kings and queens that the world
recognizes lives in a pack of cards. The grace, majesty and the tidiness of her
mellowed style is perfected in the choice of watches that added to her fashion
accessories. She is truly a study in sartorial grace.
Did she
have a real fascination for any brand in particular? Though there is no way to
find out what was Princess Diana’s most favored watch, by relying on hunches
and clues on the number of occasions she chose to wear a watch, it seems
reasonably correct to assume that a Patek
Philippe Gold Watch is her
beloved one. Te gold watch and the gold bracelet are birthday gifts from Prince
Charles. This was her usual wear before the divorce. She has been spotted on
certain occasions wearing a square watch with a black strap. We are clueless on
that watch’s name.
Certainly
a significant person like her can have a huge collection of watches. In Diana’s watchdrobe there is a diamond watch which was a
wedding present from the Mother Queen Elizabeth II in 1981. This Swiss Federal Republic’s Watch is specially designed watch made
of platinum presented to the Queen in 1947 as a wedding gift. It was designed
by the world’s oldest watch factory Vacheron&Constantin. It was rarely her wear. At times she
is spotted wearing a two tone metallic watch; but we do not yet know its brand
name. Her divorce did not take away her charm and celebrity status. However,
after the separation she is often spotted with an 18K yellow Gold Cartier Tank
Francaise watch. Now
that the world looks at Diana as an iconic figure of the twentieth century and
all that she used in the past are under the microscope. Her artifacts have now
the value of relics.
Vladimir Putin and Luxury Watches
The love
for a luxury watches is also an aesthetic quality. Vladimir Putin is no dry and
tedious hard core Russia is also an action man with a judo
black belt, a passionate explorer who skis down volcanoes, dips in Siberian
rivers and plummets deep down lakes in mini submarines. Among the many passions
of the stout Russian his love for luxury Swiss watches looms large. And the
avid press has highlighted this. Among the Russian political galore, Putin
wears the most expensive watches, a $60,000 Patek
Philippe Perpetual Calendar watch. It is interesting to note he wears his
watch on the right hand. He also owns a Patek
Philippe Calatrava. A few years ago he gifted two of his watches to a
factory worker and a boy. Luckily for Putin they were not Patek Philippe
watches.

The
obsession with watches among rulers is not something new. Watches always have
taken a distinct place among the appendages of rulers as shown by the proud
watches owned by Kings, Queens , Sultans and Popes of yesteryears. Watches are
perhaps the real visible symbols of your wealth. You can not wear your flats,
yachts, and the bank balance on your person. This allurement for watches is
scene in many politicians like Blair, Berlusconi, Clinton etc. Several Russian
deputies and governmental officials parade their fondness for the Swiss brand.
The Chairman of the Russian energy giant RAO UES, Anatoli Chubais adorns himself
with a Patek Philippe. Peter Aven, the President of the Alpha Bank wears
a fitting Patek Philippe suited to a great banker. Moscow Mayor Yiri Luzhkov
too hosts a Patek Philippe Calatrava worth not less than $18,000. Similarly Chelsea ’s
owner Roman Abramovich loves Rolexes. The Rolex that he wears now might cost
around $29,000.
One of
the great leaders that helped Russia to say adieu to communism, Mikhail
Gorbachev’s watch is an Omega Constellation. Has the perestroika obliterated some of the earlier
symbols of austerity, the sickle bearing maid and the hammer bearing worker and
opened up a Russia of glitter and glamour now brandishing their symbols
of new wealth and prosperity in Swiss watches?. The great watch brands
that adorn the hands of the new generation plutocrats of any country may not be
the diet of the common man.
The Amazing Collection of Luxury Watches
of James R. Kelly III
Watch collection is certainly a passionate
hobby and enduring investment. James R. Kelly III, the CEO of KELLEE
Communications Group Inc. is fabulously rich but less known for his wealth. His
wife perhaps is a byword in American politics. The third mayor of the District
Columbia, she is the first African-American woman to become the mayor of an
important American city. James R. Kelly is perhaps shy of the limelight and
always shunned publicity. But as a collector of luxury watches he has earned a
name for himself in the horological circles where he is notable. Now Kelley is
in his early sixties. In his early forties he started collecting great watches:
a shrewd investment in the timeless aspect of time? Or is it just a whim of a
man of means? The result is fabulous the value of his investment in luxury
watches is skyrocketing and reaches new peaks. Evidently luxury watches are a
great buy.
The wide range of collection certainly makes us say vow!
Kelly’s collection includes Twelve Jaeger-LeCoultre,
three Panerai, two Frank Muller, two Piagets, a platinum Rolex President, an A.Lange &Sohne and nine Patek Philippe. Kelley’s
collections are usually limited editions and discontinued designs. Kelley’s
business acumen tells him that the prices of these are not likely to come down.
The owner of such an impressive watchdrobe Kelly is definitely one of the
richest Americans. However, it is amazing such a man keeps aloof from popular
view. But certainly in horological circles he is very much in the limelight due
to the impressive array of masterpieces in his collection.
It is
seen that certain things do get old but the value of them certainly increases.
What makes luxury watches from celebrated houses priceless legacies can be
explained by the psychological urge of man to possess and own what is unique
and rare.

the great fame of Clint Eastwood as an actor has made scholars look for the
watches that he used in some of his films. In Absolute
Power, Clint Eastwood production of 1997 in which Clint Eastwood stars with
Gene Hackman and Ed Haris, the watch worn by Clint is a stainless steel Rolex Datejust. It is a film
involving the terrible crime in which the American President is involved. Rolex
watches have been in films a number of times. The brand placing enhances the
reputation of the brand.
Two Rolex
watches are worn by Clint Eastwood in the making Firefox (1982) directed and starred by Clint East
wood, Nigel Hawthorne and Stefan Schnabel. You can at least see two good close
up that help you to fix the watch. You can easily identify them as steel and
gold Rolex GMT watches. The watch in the hand of a celebrity in the large
screen or real life is easily noticed and sublimely fans develop the longing to
