Ian Fleming

One of the major passions in the life of the super spy is high-end luxury watches. Even before James Bond appeared on the big screen Ian Fleming had given Bond a watch. In the novel On Her Majesty’s Secret Service he uses his Rolex as a knuckle-duster and shatters his watch. Planning a replacement he thinks a Rolex? Probably.  He admits that they are a bit heavy but they work and the phosphorous numerals allow him night vision for his crucial work. Fictional association of  Rolex with Bond has boosted the sale of the brand.
The saga of James Bond started in a small way. When Bond grew his status from the hero of pulp fiction to that of celebrity we are actually able to see his watch. In Dr.No, Sean Connery is adorning himself with a Rolex Submariner. This watch could be Ref.No 6538 or 6508. Today, it is know as James Bond Submariner. Bond’s enemies also use watches in the films but they are not highlighted. The very purpose of brand placing in films is an advertisement gimmicks and the watches of Bond’s enemies are not likely to be wooed by watch lovers. Ever since Rolex watches were brand-placed in the movies the sales of these watches certainly have gone up.
